NHS Optical Voucher Scheme

If you live in a Care home, you may be entitled to an NHS optical voucher to help cover the cost of your prescription eyewear or contact lenses.

You could qualify if you:

• Are eligible for an NHS Complex Lens Voucher (your optician can advise you)
• Receive, or are dependent on someone who receives, certain benefits such as Income Support, Income-based employment & support allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit, or Universal Credit
• Are named on an NHS certificate for full or partial help with health costs (HC2 or HC3)

NHS Complex Lens Voucher

You may be able to receive an NHS Complex Lens Voucher if you have a strong prescription (-10.00 or +10.00 dioptres or above), or if you need specialist bifocal lenses with prism control.

This voucher helps to reduce the cost of these lenses. The current NHS contribution is:

• £15.81 towards single vision lenses
• £40.57 towards bifocal lenses

Complex lens vouchers are available to patients who meet the clinical requirements and who are not entitled to a standard NHS optical voucher.
